Video: Renault Clio RS 220 Trophy

Ahh, what would the world be without hatchbacks – especially the ones that can provide cheap thrills. Welcome everybody to the Renault Clio RS 220 Trophy, a performance focused version of the car your girlfriend drives. The RS resulted when Renault Sport took the standard Clio and turned it up to eleven. Coming in at just R419 900, this is certainly the cheapest way to get a racing inspired machine. Anymore than this and you’re heading into serious performance territory. However if you feel like the Trophy’s 162 kW and 280 N.m is a bit overwhelming, Renault also offers the Clio RS in Lux spec, which is more compliant and easier to live with. But when it comes to the full fat Trophy, words like ‘compliant’ get thrown out along with some sense of self-preservation because as this is a driver’s car, it wants to be driven at the limits of available grip. Advocating the performance theme is taut suspension attached to 18-inch 205 mm section tyres and a gaping front bumper complimented by an imposing diffuser at the rear seated between Akrapovic exhaust tips on either side. Watch the video to see for the Trophy in action.
